Description
The 1941 Goudey set was the last one issued by the iconic gum company after producing only a military-themed set in 1940 and before exiting the card business for good. Each card in this 33-card set was produced with colorful backgrounds of yellow, blue, green and red. The cards are tough to obtain in any color. This particular card however features a red background, which is the most difficult to find among the 4 colors. Fletcher played parts of 12 seasons in the Major Leagues between 1934 and 1949, interrupted by 2 years of military service 1944-1945. As an 18-year-old Minor Leaguer in 1935, he shared a Spring Training dugout with Babe Ruth, who was then in his last professional season with the Boston Braves. The card has substantial corner/edge/surface wear as well as multiple creases. While not in the best shape, it is a 100% original example from one of the rarer pre-war sets produced just before the start of U.S. involvement in WWII. You will receive a partial refund for shipping costs after payment is made when multiple auctions are won within the same week.
