Condition: MySlabs C (vg/ex)
Description
Has edge and surface wear, but no creases and is in solid shape overall. The centering and focus are above average. This comes from one of the more unusual early pre-war sets produced by the Colgan Gum Company of Louisville, KY between 1909 and 1911. The Standard Catalog designation is E254. These 1-7/16" diameter round cards were inserted in 5-cent round tins of Colgan's Mint and Violet Chips brands of gum. This features Jack Pfiester (misspelled "Pfeister" on the card) of the Chicago Cubs. Pfiester played a total of 8 years in the Major Leagues with Pittsburgh and Chicago between 1903 and 1911. He was a member of all 3 Cubs teams that represented the National League in the World Series between 1906 and 1908, winning two of them in 1907 and 1908. The 1908 team was the last Cubs team to win the World Series before the 2016 team won it 108 years later. Pfiester posted a lifetime 2.02 ERA, the third best all-time for pitchers with at least 1,000 innings. Here's your chance to own a tough to obtain vintage item from the early days of baseball that would make a great gift for any true Cubs fan. You will receive a partial refund for shipping costs after payment is made when multiple auctions are won within the same week.
