Description

This card comes from a team set sold at Sportsmans Park in 1941, the home of the NL St. Louis Cardinals and AL St. Louis Browns at the time. The card measures 2 1/8 in. x 2 5/8 in. and is produced on thin paper stock. The Standard Catalog designation for the set is W754 and a companion set for the Browns numbered W753 also was sold at the stadium. Padgett began his career with the Cardinals in 1935 and played with them until 1941. He served in WWII from 1942-45, then returned to baseball in 1946 to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Braves that year. Padgett then played his final two years with the Philadelphia Phillies before retiring at the end of the 1948 season. This solid example has corner/edge/surface wear but is strong shape overall with no creases.
