1916 Boston Red Sox vs. Brooklyn Robins World Series Scorecard w/ Babe Ruth

Description

Rare 1916 World Series advertising scorecard issued by Jos. W. Isbell, a tailoring company based in Hooker, Oklahoma. This is the first example of this promotional piece we have ever seen, and the fact that it features Ruth, who made his second World Series appearance in 1916, makes it especially significant. The design includes portrait images of fourteen members of the World Champion Boston Red Sox, including Ruth, Harry Hooper, and Dutch Leonard, and fourteen members of the National League Champion Brooklyn Robins, including Rube Marquard, Casey Stengel, and Zack Wheat. Portrait images of both managers, Bill Carrigan for Boston and Wilbert Robinson for Brooklyn, appear on the opposite side, above the scorecard section. In addition to the portrait images, the scorecard lists the top batters for all leagues (Major and minor), the top team batting for all leagues (Major and minor), and the top ten batters for each league (American and National) during the 1916 season.
