1951 Topps Red Back #16 Elwin “Preacher” Roe Brooklyn Dodgers 🔥⚾🔥⚾
Condition: MySlabs B (ex/nrmt)
Description
First year Topps issue with fantastic color, gloss, focus and centering as well as only minor surface wear. There is a slight wrinkle along the back left edge toward the center that is barely noticeable and does not affect the front of the card. Roe was a 4x All-Star during his 12-year Major League career and a critical member of the Brooklyn Dodgers starting rotation in the late 1940's and early 1950's. He was known for his blazing fast ball early in his career in addition to his notorious spit ball. Roe earned his famous nickname "Preacher" when he apparently was quite the handful as a young child growing up in Arkansas and his Grandma said she hoped he would grow up to assume that occupation. Wishful thinking as it turned out.
