1935 Amalgamated Press Joe Louis Rookie Card - IMPOSSIBLY RARE
Description
Up for sale is Joe Louis most rare rookie card. Collectors of the Brown Bomber may never have another chance to own one of these. This is a must own for serious Joe Louis collectors. PSA has only ever graded this card a total of ELEVEN TIMES. Only 2 other copies share the grade of 5 and there are NONE HIGHER. These cards were hand cut from a wallet strip when they were originally produced. Whoever cut this one over 85 years ago did a fantastic job as centering is only slightly off and is really the only visible flaw. Corners and edges are in brilliant shape and the eye appeal is amazing. I'm not a professional grader, but I believe this card deserves a higher grade than a 5. You'll notice that the PSA label shows the card as 1930 rather than 1935 as the listing states. If you search the PSA cert number on the PSA website, the pop report that comes up shows 1935. I'm guessing 1930 was either a typo on the label, or more likely that the research that PSA has done since the time this card was slabbed has caused them to re-name the set. All of the research I've done on this card tells me it was indeed a 1935, and that makes more sense relative to Louis' career as well. He didn't become a professional until 1934. These never come up for sale. Don't miss this chance at a pre-war boxing gem. If you have questions, please ask.
